“It is finished!”
Who can fathom the depth of such declaration? A declaration full of wonder,
consolation and relief for mankind. A declaration of completion, triumph and
freedom. But what is finished? Who finished it?
When Adam, the
first man, fell into sin, his actions led the whole human race into sin: “For
as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners” (Romans 5:19). Every human being inherited the sinful nature of Adam and became
estranged from God. The Scripture confirms that “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Consequently, Jesus came into the
world to put an end to the problem of sin and reconcile all men to God once and
for all. He became the ultimate lamb of sacrifice for the sins of the whole
world (Hebrews 9:28; John 1:29).
Thus, He was
condemned to death for crimes He did not commit. He hung on the Cross of
crucifixion under extreme physical and mental torture. The betrayal by His
friends, the excruciating pains He felt, and the humiliation of complete
rejection did not make Him abandon the purpose for which He came down to earth.
All that mattered was the redemption of lost humanity.
While under
intense pain, His final words on the Cross were, “It is finished!” (John 19:30).
Yes, finished! He accomplished the work of redemption fully and finally –
the debt of sin owed by all humans was fully paid and forever dealt with. “The
history-long plan of redeeming man was finished. The message of God to man was finished.
The works done by Jesus as a man on earth were finished. The task of selecting
and training ambassadors was finished. The job was finished. The song had been
sung. The blood had been poured. The sacrifice had been made. The sting of
death had been removed. It was over.
Praise God!
Now, you have hope in this life and eternity. Christ’s permanent victory opened
the door for your redemption and reconciliation with God. Now, you can be
reconciled with God and live in victory all the days of your life. Everything
that has ever and will ever afflict man has been dealt with on the Cross. You
can have victory over sin and all the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). You can be
free from sin, sicknesses, diseases, and all demonic oppressions; the price for
your deliverance has been paid in full! Satan and all his demons can no longer
have dominion over you because Jesus Christ defeated them on the Cross, and has
given those who believe in Him the power to tread on all the works of the devil
(Luke 10:19).
Friend, since
Christ has fully paid the price for your redemption, what else are you waiting
for? He paid dearly so you can be justified freely. Now is the time to accept
His offer of salvation. Do not delay any longer; He is reaching out to you
today again. Open your heart to Him and embrace His finished work on the Cross
for you.
Repent of all your sins, stop the habit of doing anything ungodly, and He will wash you clean with His atoning blood. Repent, believe in Jesus and stop sinning, and you will be saved from the power and penalty of sin. He will make you a new creation and give you the power to live a new life in Him; “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1: 12).
Glory be to Lord Jesus Christ.
