Moral Teachings of Jesus Christ (Part 1) The Beatitudes

MORAL TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST (PART 1) THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT (THE BEATITUDES) MATTHEW 5:3-11

The word “Beatitude” means blessed, since many of the sentences begin with blessed. When Jesus Christ was giving the sermon on the mount, he described the quality of life that should be exhibited in order to enjoy certain privileges in our relationship with God. Anyone who exhibits qualities as described in the sermon on the mount is blessed with such privileges. The beatitudes read as follows;

1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

8. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 9. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

EXPLANATIONS OF THE BEATITUDES

 1. The Poor in spirit

The poor in spirit are those who are humble and conscious of their weakness in righteousness. Such people always feel incomplete within and therefore feel dependent on God and His mercies. Such people would be given the kingdom of God but not the self-righteous and proud people. We must know of our sinful nature, regret it and ask God to forgive us.

2. Those Who Mourn

These are who are always in distress and suffering, for feeling that they are not pious enough, and therefore try to do right things all the time. Such people would be filled with piety and be comforted.

3. The Meek

These are people who have patience and forbearance --- they are those who regret their sins, express sorrow and then repent. Such people would be forgiven and be made to live long on the earth. We must therefore learn to be meek.

4. Those after Righteousness

Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are those who are all the time ready to obey the will of God by being upright in their ways. We must learn to lead a righteous life. When we lead an upright life acceptable to the will of God, we are happy for two things: firstly, God will answer our prayers, and secondly, we will have the inner satisfaction of having done what God pleases.

5. The Merciful

The merciful are those who always forgive people who have offended them. We should learn to forgive anyone who offend us either a friend or an enemy. When we forgive our friends and enemies, we are happy because God will also forgive us our sins.

6. The Pure in Heart

The pure in heart are those who lead a holy life. To lead a holy life is to be sincere and honest in doing the will of God. When we do the will of God sincerely and honestly, we shall see God by having close fellowship and personal relationship with Him.

7. The Peacemakers

The peacemakers are those who help to bring about peace, understanding and friendship in the home, community and other places. God has assured us that those who ensure peace in the society are the children of God. So, we must learn to be peacemakers so that we become children of God.

8. The Persecuted

This is about those who are maltreated and insulted because they want to serve Christ (God). These people would be rewarded. In spite of persecution we should still persevere in the good work of our Lord.

Note: Dear reading this message, please repent from any sin you are doing now because in no time master Jesus Christ will appear, (Matthew 24:44). The reason is that God will bring every deed done by man in judgment either good or bad, (Ecclesiastes 12:14). Also we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ and you and I may receive what is due to us in the body. According to this verses from the Bible, it tells us that Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again to judge you and I. What we have to do is to repent from any sin are have involved now because we know not what time we are going to die for the Bible says as it is appointed unto man to die after that judgment. The only time to repent is now. Please be wise and repent today because you know not the exact time you are going to die or Jesus come.
